No Place Like Home
Spring Pet Super Adoption
Though the April 30th-May 2nd weekend was chilly and occasionally rainy, thousands of animal lovers turned out for the 2010 Spring Super Adoption, located in the PetSmart parking lot at 389 West 1830 South in Salt Lake City. Excited pet seekers lined up outside the gate each day, ready to meet over 800 adoptable dogs and cats from more than 20 Utah shelters and rescue groups. When the gates closed on Sunday evening, 108 cats and 248 dogs had found new homes!
We kicked off the weekend with an event dedicated to our No Place Like Home theme. Glinda the Good Witch of the North (otherwise known as NMHPU Executive Director, Holly Sizemore) gathered together canine versions of Dorothy, the Cowardly Lion, the Scarecrow and the Wicked Witch to help seek their hearts' desires: a loving home. Both dogs dressed as the Scarecrow and the Cowardly Lion were later adopted!
Just like last spring, cats were housed inside and dogs outside, which led to much more content cats! The dogs were happy, too, with lots of volunteers walking and playing with them all day. Throughout the weekend, emcee Craig Wirth tirelessly introduced individual animals to the crowd, encouraging everyone to opent their hearts and homes to a new canine or feline companion.
With cold temperatures over the 3-day long event, we put out a special call for blankets to make sure the dogs would stay warm. We were thankful for the generosity we saw, as hundreds of blankets arrived from animal lovers.
A huge thanks goes out to our hardworking volunteers, who cleaned cages/kennels, filled food/water dishes, walked dogs, and made sure every pet was taken care of, warm, and comfortable.
We'd also like to thank our sponsors: PetSmart Charities, PetSmart, Hartz, Metro Display, Comcast, Chevron, City Weekly, Questar, X96 and Pioneer Sawdust.
If you didn't have a chance to attend the Spring Pet Super Adoption, be sure to attend the Fall Pet Super Adoption, September 10-12.
