Walk, Wag, and Swim

Wagging and Swimming!

At the end of the human swim season each year, pools around the valley clear out the chlorine and open up for a day of dog-only swimming. The Draper Outdoor Pool creates a whole festival and fundraiser for No More Homeless Pets in Utah around doggie swim day, with a dog walk, a dog swim, and festivities for canines and humans alike - Walk, Wag, and Swim!

Hundreds of dogs and their people came out to the pool for the sixth annual event on September 18. The day opened with a dog walk around the perimeter of the park to get everyone warmed up for the swim. A police dog demo showed the skills of local law enforcement canines as the gates opened and dogs splashed into the pool.

Dogs of all sizes showed up, with Chihuahuas, pugs and Boston terriers stepping delicately at the sloped edge of the pool and larger dogs bounding further into the pool to fetch tennis balls and Frisbees. Water-loving dogs jumped into the deep end of the pool to practice their skills before the Big Air Diving Contest, and that contest lived up to its name with dogs leaping high into the air and across the pool to retrieve tennis balls and other favorite toys.

The dogs and their people left the event happily exhausted, bringing the summer to a festive close.
