The sun shone brightly on this year’s Strut Your Mutt at Veterans Memorial Park on May 21st. 2,150 participants and their dogs came out to enjoy the beautiful weather and the festive event, which raised over $170,000 to help Utah’s homeless cats and dogs.
Introduced by Best Friends Animal Society CEO Gregory Castle, 2010 Strut Your Mutt top fundraiser Julie Kalar and Salt Lake County Deputy Mayor Nichole Dunn, led the leisurely strut around Veterans Memorial Park.
In addition to the walk, dogs enjoyed running the course at Course a’ Lure, testing their coordination at Brickyard Kennel’s Agility Course, and watching a fantastic performance by Dazzle Dogzz.
The participants are who really made this event a success–and we especially appreciate all of your fundraising efforts! This year, the Golden Collar award for top individual fundraising went to Roxanne Mashburn of the South Valley Princesses.
The Dog Pack fundraising awards were as follows:
• Golden Biscuit Award (corporate teams with 25 or more members): Delta Force
• Golden Leash Award (corporate teams of less than 25 members): Diamond Dogs
• Golden Mutt Award (friends and families teams): South Valley Princesses
• Golden Bone (Network Charities packs): Utah Friends of Basset Hounds
An exciting new component of this year’s event was the addition of the Best Friends No More Homeless Pets Network (formerly Network Charities). No More Homeless Pets in Utah opened up the fundraising opportunity Strut Your Mutt provides to local Network groups. All participating No More Homeless Pets Network groups are 501(c)3 organizations that are working toward achieving a world of No More Homeless Pets. Participants who joined participating Network Dog Packs helped raise money for them, and each group received all of the money they raised after transaction fees, including registration fees!
