On the weekend of December 4th, hundreds of people flocked to the Holiday Pet Super Adoption headquarters right next to the Salt Lake City PetSmart to give a dog or cat the perfect holiday gift – a new forever home! The space was decorated in holiday style, and as a special treat, Santa was on hand in PetSmart for those who wanted Christmas photos of their new family members.
Coming from as far away as Idaho, adopters met playful puppies and kittens, active adults and sedate seniors, and 55 cats and 116 dogs found their homes for the holidays over the weekend. Those who didn’t find homes all found temporary homes with rescue groups or fosters, meaning that yet again, not a single animal who came to the Pet Super Adoption was at risk for euthanasia.
With the entire event held inside and free cocoa available to warm up chilly hands, families were able to meet the dogs and cats in a comfortable environment. The dogs were so excited to meet everyone that they kept up a friendly barking throughout the event, but earplugs were available to help quell the noise. Despite earplugs for them, the cats soon grew accustomed to the barking and relaxed, many keeping a nonstop purr going throughout the weekend as people stopped to pet them.
When the weekend closed, we saw an outpouring of compassion from foster families, who invited dogs and cats to live with them as they sought their forever homes. And it was because of these fosters, the adopters, and all of the participating groups that all of the animals who came to Super Adoption have a chance at a new life. What a great way to kick of the holiday season!
