Fall Super Adoption 2009

Adopt For Life Pet Super Adoption, September 11-13, 2009

Warm temperatures welcomed thousands of pet seekers to the 2009 Fall Super Adoption, located at the Petsmart on 1830 South and 389 West in Salt Lake City. A line formed early Friday afternoon as we opened the weekend with over 800 adoptable pets from 18 shelters and rescue groups. By weekend’s end, 406 animals had been adopted (279 dogs and 127 cats).

We kicked off the event with a special art project dedicated to our Adopt For Life theme for this year’s Super Adoptions. Big Budah and Good Day Utah stopped by to check out the hand prints and paw prints of some talented little girls and their canine pals. Executive Director, Holly Sizemore was also present to end her expertise in a live interview that aired that morning.

With some especially warm temperatures over the 3-day long event, volunteers and staff alike did their best to keep the animals cool and comfortable. Ice cold dog pools were filled for walking dogs to take a dip, while hundreds of ice bags were filled and put into the cat cages to keep them from overheating.

We were lucky enough to have the amazing Dazzle Dogs perform Saturday afternoon. Maya, Arrow and Apache entertained the crowds with their cool dance moves, impeccable rhythm, and witty tricks. Special thanks to Diane Roberg and the Dazzle Dogs for spending the afternoon with us and giving the crowds a great performance!

MC Craig Wirth worked his magic on the mic, persuading the crowd to open their hearts and their homes to a new dog or cat (or both!) As usual, he did a great job! Thanks again, Craig!

A HUGE thanks goes out to our hardworking volunteers, who offered their time and services by cleaning cages/kennels, filling food/water dishes, walking dogs, and making sure every pet was taken care of,  cooled off, and comfortable. Our volunteers did an amazing job and we cannot say Thank You enough!

We’d also like to thank our sponsors, including: Petsmart, Petsmart Charities, Metro Display, Comcast, Chevron, City Weekly, Questar, X96, and Pioneer Sawdust. Thank you for your support! And of course, we appreciate all those who opened their hearts and homes to a new adopted pet. Your love and kindness showed us once again why we put on Super Adoption events. It’s because of you that so many animals now have a home to call their own.
