Chuck Austin
Chuck Austin has been a long time volunteer for No More Homeless Pets In Utah. Several years ago, he found out about NHHPU through Best Friends Animal Society and has been an active volunteer for both organizations ever since. He has worn many different hats at NMHPU over the years and is willing to do just about anything. Our staff just loves him and he is without question a loyal advocate for the animals.
For example, every Super Adoption the dreaded early morning gate position needs to be filled. Without any arm twisting, Chuck always volunteers to arrive early and stay late. In fact, he has been our gate keeper for years. Watching the front gate is not a glamorous position, but very important for the safety of the animals and the public.
In addition to his commitment to Super Adoption, Chuck goes very week to care for the dogs at our off site kennel. It’s a job that requires heavy cleaning and as a result can be an easy burn-out for many volunteers. But not Chuck, he has been doing it for over a year now and always does a great job. He says despite the work, he knows the dogs appreciate it and he always gives them extra attention.
Chuck recently even adopted a dog from the kennel. Lisa, a black Cocker Spaniel is now a member of the Austin family along with their Golden Retriever. Autumn Wagner , NMHPU’s Adoption Director sings Chuck’s praises daily, “If something needs repaired Chuck just takes the initiative to fix it on his own which has been a wonderful surprise.”
This past Christmas, Chuck helped out with “Santa Paws” and donned our Santa outfit to pose with pets for pictures. He gladly wore the suit in order to help raise money for Utah’s homeless pets and we can’t thank him enough.
Chuck recently retired from his long time position at the Salt Lake Corporation as an Engineering Inspector. He and his wife Carol have been married for 41 years. They have one daughter and two grand kids along with their furry family. Chuck is a true friend to the animals so next time you walk through the gates as Super Adoption, be sure to say hello!
