 | Saving Bilko Standing over Bilko's crate at adoptions meant seeing a side of Bilko that wasn't true to his sweet nature. It meant finding a 70 lb pit bull terrier growling in fear and snapping at folks passing by. Bilko had been up for adoption for eight months and had basically adopted the adoption team as his family. He supervised us when we cleaned the kennels, wiggled with excitement the second we walked up to him, and was quietly protective when a stranger would walk up to us. We all wished we could just explain to him that potential adopters meant him no harm and would shy away from his cage aggression. But it turned out Bilko found someone who could look past that and see the real sweet dog underneath. Jose Martinez was kneeling by Bilko's crate one Saturday, when No More Homeless Pets in Utah Adoptions Coordinator, Allie asked if he needed any help. He replied no and continued visiting with Bilko. Jose came the following weekend, and the weekend after to walk and visit with Bilko. By the time Jose came with his family to tell Allie he wanted to take him home, Bilko showed no cage aggression, but wiggled excitedly when Jose walked up to his crate. We knew then, that his eight month long wait for his forever home was finally over. |
